This six-lesson program, developed with wellbeing experts and educators, builds students emotional literacy, resilience and agency. Each themed lesson includes videos, prompts, posters and educator scripts to spark discussion, support reflection and guide students in exploring emotions and positive futures.

Thriving in times of uncertainty

How can we thrive, flourish, be well and happy among all the social, economic, and environmental impacts of climate change?

  1. Video and discussion (15 minutes)

    Show the students the lesson video and facilitate a guided discussion. 

  2. Brainstorming ways to relax and recharge (30 minutes)

    Support students to explore and articulate their emotional responses to climate change. Through guided discussion and reflection, students consider personal coping strategies and supportive actions that can help them manage these emotions individually and collectively.

  3. Somatic practices (20 minutes)

    Guide somatic practices that support self-regulation and co-regulation. These practices are introduced as tools students can use during and beyond the lesson.

  4. First Nations perspective and contemplation (20 minutes)

    Guide an exploration of First Nations perspectives on caring for Country.

  5. Reflection (5 minutes)

    Guide a reflective activity to consolidate learning and personal insights.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

Identify

Identify basic brain responses to stress and recognise when they are within, above, or below their window of tolerance.

Understand

Understand how stress affects the body and emotions and how self-regulation and co-regulation can help restore balance.

Reflect

Reflect on their own stress responses and recall one or more somatic practices they can use to help themselves feel calmer and more supported.

Illustrations and posters support discussion, reflection and emotional engagement throughout the lesson and are linked to from the lesson plans.
