Cultural heritage and biodiversity research

Summary of research

Climate change is impacting culturally significant plants and animals. Changes in seasonal rainfall and temperature can disrupt long standing cultural indicators and weaken cultural connections with Country. This research explores the impacts of climate change on culturally significant species in the Minyumai Indigenous Protected Area – a 20,000 hectare wildlife corridor on the NSW North Coast. This research was conducted through the Biodiversity Node of the NSW Adaptation Research Hub with Traditional Owners and rangers and can help Indigenous communities, such as the Bandjalang Traditional Owners and rangers to enhance future land management and provide educational tools for schools.
