Launch of new look AdaptNSW website

20 Jan 2022

We are excited to launch the new look AdaptNSW website today to help people around the State to prepare and adapt to climate change impacts

The website continues to be the leading source of credible information on climate change for NSW. Now with a deeper focus on bringing the people of NSW everything they need to increase their awareness about how climate change will affect them and their ability to take action.

The Department’s Executive Director Climate Change and Sustainability, Dr Kate Wilson, said new climate information resources like climate risk guides, checklists and case studies are designed to help households, community groups, business and government prepare and respond to the very real impacts of climate change.

“The material on this website is practical and helps us all to be more aware of how climate change will affect day to day life and what we value,” Dr Wilson said.

“Critically, the website shows society how it can respond to challenges from droughts and heatwaves to floods and bushfire,” Dr Wilson said.

Local councils and businesses, of any size, can use the information on the AdaptNSW website to manage the physical risks and their employees’ health and safety.”

Dr Wilson said climate change impacts are incredibly diverse from the impact of increasing temperatures on lifestyle in urban areas to flood risks to IT infrastructure.

The AdaptNSW website includes case studies sharing how people, communities and businesses are already taking action. Our innovative Increasing Resilience to Climate Change grant project stories, feature local councils who are building resilience to the impacts of extreme heat in their communities. These projects are delivered in partnership with Local Government NSW.

The recent AdaptNSW webinar also showcased some councils and what they are doing to adapt to climate change on heat issues, and the opportunity to learn about practical tools and resources available to support councils facing the same challenges.

The website provides support with new leading-practice tools and resources to access localised climate change and hazard information and case studies of adaptation that inspire action. This will allow the people of NSW to better protect their lifestyles and the places they value.
